Huawei will be launching its new Mate 9 smartphone succeeding the earlier Mate 8 model. The Mate 9 is expected to come with 6GB RAM. It is also expected to have a dual camera setup similar to the one on P9, but it’s much bigger at 20 megapixels. The Mate 9 will most likely sport a 6″ Quad HD display with resolution of 2560 X 1440 pixels. A Kirin 960 processor will power the Huawei Mate 9 ( more powerful than the Kirin 955 processor that Huawei P9 came with) and it will be accompanied by an octa core GPU. A 128 GB storage option will also feature in the Huawei Mate 9, which is much greater to the 32 GB and 64 GB storage options that the earlier version came with. The Huawei Mate 8 came with 2GB, 3 GB and 4 GB RAM options, and here’s where Huawei Mate 9 will surpass its predecessor with a massive 6 GB RAM. The phone makers have chosen to go big in terms of size of display and processor configuration. It is targeted at phablet-loving audiences that constitute a huge proportion of smartphone buyers in emerging markets like India. With specs that might seem over the top for many, much would depend on how the phone is priced in order for it to garner mass appeal.
There is no official word from Huawei as to when this model will be launched, but expect that to happen towards the end of this year. Details about pricing and availability is expected to be announced by the company in the coming months. Meantime, the company’s other recent offerings, The P9 Plus will be available from next month onwards in Asia while the P9 will be available for purchase from this month itself. The P9 would come for £449 (₹ 42,000 approx) and the P9 Plus would come for £549 (₹51,000 approx).
